Luthier Talk #1

📖 1 min read.

Back on February 20th, things got delightfully nerdy in Kamp-Lintfort. An event dedicated entirely to Gitarrenbau und Gitarrenklang (guitar building and guitar tone) brought together Frauke Meyer and Jan Christopher Heßling at the Musikschule.

If you’ve ever wondered why two guitars that look practically identical can sound like totally different universes, well, that was pretty much the starting point. The session was all about talking shop regarding what actually goes into crafting a classical guitar: from the magic and obsession behind selecting the right woods and bracing patterns, to how every single millimeter of thickness completely changes the voice of the instrument.

Frauke brought her perspective to the table, while the discussion also leaned into string tension, resonance, and sound aesthetics. An artistic exchange about the intersection of fine craftsmanship and pure acoustics.
Huge thanks to everyone who showed up, listened to the deep dive into wood shavings and tone, and hung around for a chat afterward.
